
Pete Alonso Named to Freshman All American Team

Madison, WI - June 12, 2014. Current Mallards infielder and designated hitter Pete Alonso (Florida) was named to the 2014 National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Freshman All American Second Team earlier this week.
Alonso was named to the team after batting .264 for the Gators this past season with 32 RBI, 18 walks, 17 runs and four homers. The talented 6'3", 225-pound product out of Tampa, Florida was also named to the 2014 SEC All Freshman Team, and is currently batting .375 in seven games for the Mallards with 12 hits, 11 runs, five RBI and two home runs.
Alonso attended Plant High School where he was a second-team Preseason All-American and was named to the Florida All-Region First Team by Rawlings/Perfect Game prior to his senior season. He hit .387 as a senior, with 24 runs scored, 22 RBIs, nine doubles and seven home runs. In his career he hit .460 with 99 RBIs, 36 doubles and 17 home runs. Alonso received the 2013 Wade Boggs Athletic Achievement Award, based upon outstanding athletic skills, exceptional academic achievement, good sportsmanship and exemplary conduct.
The Madison Mallards (10-5) play in Wisconsin Rapids at 7:05 pm tonight to start a two-game home and home series against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (3-13). They return home to the "Duck Pond" tomorrow to play the Rafters at 7:05 pm. Tomorrow is Charter Communications Office Space Night with an appearance by Richard Riehle, who played Tom Symkowski, the creator of the Jump to Conclusions Mat. Doc Jams will provide old printers and copiers for fans to smash on the field post-game.
