Honkers Fall in Rain Shortened Game

(Rochester, Minn.) - For the third straight contest, the Rochester Honkers were unable to get a run on the board as they were defeated by the Thunder Bay Border Cats 3-0 at Port Arthur Stadium. The two teams completed six innings before the game was called final due to rain in Thunder Bay.

The win gives the Border Cats their second straight to move to 8-21 in the second half and 21-44 overall. The Honkers dropped their third straight to fall to 13-16 and 30-35.

Calen Schwabe (Des Moines Area CC) got the Border Cats on the board in the second as he singled to bring in a run. Billy Cook (Pepperdine) gave Thunder Bay a 2-0 lead with a RBI single of his own.

The Border Cats added to their lead in the fifth. Dylan Caplinger (Northern Oklahoma Enid) hit a sacrifice fly to center to give Thunder Bay a 3-0 advantage.

Honkers starting pitcher Matteo Bocchi (Texas) was tagged with his second loss of the year. Bocchi tossed four innings giving up two runs on five hits. Jack Nelson (St. Mary's) came in relief to work two innings and gave up one run.

Thunder Bay starting pitcher Rogelio Reyes (California) picked up his second win in the series opener. Reyes tossed six shutout innings and struck out eight.

The Honkers look to bounce back against the Border Cats Sunday at Port Arthur Stadium. Nick Simak (Roosevelt) is scheduled to make his second start for Rochester, Simak has a 0-1 record and a 18.00 ERA. Simak will be up against Keenan Eaton (Colorado Mesa) from Thunder Bay, Eaton has a 0-2 record and a 5.40 ERA. First pitch is scheduled for 12:35 p.m.
