Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, WI. - The visiting Lakeshore Chinooks (29-35, 13-16) got off to a scorching four-run start in the opening frame and the host Green Bay Bullfrogs (25-40, 13-16) could not recover from the early deficit in a 9-7 defeat at Joannes Stadium Saturday evening.
The Chinooks sprinted to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Dallas Beaver got the bats going with a two-run blast followed by a RBI double from Sebastian Holte-Mancera to make it 3-0. Sam Kohnle capped the frame with a RBI single of his own.
Green Bay chipped away at the deficit in the second and third innings to trim the margin down to 4-3. A RBI single from Blake Nelson (Junior, Michigan) made it a 4-1 game in the second. The Bullfrogs tacked on two runs in the third with a pair of RBI fielder's choices by Adrian Damla (Sophomore, UC Irvine) and Andre Antone (Freshman, UC Irvine) to make it a one-run ballgame.
Lakeshore's offense exploded for another four-spot in the fourth inning to stretch the advantage to 8-3. The scoring surge began with a sacrifice fly from Connor Christman before a two-run bomb by Jack Dunn extended the lead to 7-3. Dominic Clementi then scored on a wild pitch to make it a five-run lead.
Both teams exchanged runs in the fifth with Cole Turney scoring on a wild pitch to put the Chinooks up 9-3 followed by a RBI sacrifice fly from Nelson in the bottom of the fifth inning to make it 9-4. Lakeshore was held scoreless for the remainder of the contest.
Green Bay attempted the comeback trail in the seventh and eighth innings, tallying three straight runs to cut the deficit down to two. Another RBI single from Nelson made it 9-4 in the seventh, while a RBI single from Keaton Smith (Junior, Nevada) and Brian Davis (Freshman, Gordon State College) scoring on a wild pitch in the eighth inning trimmed the margin down to 9-7. The late rally would not be enough as Lakeshore held on for the two-run triumph.
Riley Mihalik (Junior, Rider Univ.) led the Bullfrog's offensive attack, finishing 2-for-4 with a double, triple and three runs scored. Nelson was 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
Lakeshore starting pitcher Brandon Komar (Freshman, Madison College) earned the win, improving to 2-3. Green Bay starter Cody Norman (Sophomore, Univ. of La Verne) took the loss, dropping to 2-2. Bullfrogs reliever McKinley Moore (Sophomore, Arkansas-Little Rock) was solid in relief, tossing four innings allowing one run on one hit with four strikeouts. Chinooks relief pitcher Nick Campe notched his third save of the season.
Both teams conclude the two-game series tomorrow evening as the Bullfrogs play their final game against the Chinooks this season. First pitch is slated for a 5:05 p.m. start at Kapco Park in Mequon, WI.
