Rochester Honkers News Release

(Rochester, MN) - The Rochester Honkers dropped the 11-inning finale of a three-game set to the Mankato MoonDogs on Thursday night in heartbreaking fashion from Mankato, MN 6-5. The MoonDogs win the series 2-1.

The Honkers had a 5-4 lead going to the bottom of the ninth but could not hold on with Jordan Millbrath (Augustana) on the hill.

Millbrath walked the leadoff man Cody Ferrell (Oklahoma City), who would later attempt to steal second base and then come all the way around to score after an errant throw from Honkers catcher Chad Wallach (Cal State Fullerton) and a bobble in center field by Jordan Parr (Illinois). The game would move to extra innings with the score tied 5-5.

The Honkers offense would go down in order in the tenth and eleventh innings before the MoonDogs would score the winning run on a Chris Munoz (Oklahoma City) RBI single and send the Honkers packing.

With the loss, Millbrath is now 2-2 on the season.

Honkers starter DJ Snelten (Minnesota) lasted 4.1 innings and surrendered three runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks. Snelten also struck out four batters to earn the no-decision.

Right-hander Chris Noble (Pikeville) worked 2.2 innings of one-run baseball in relief of Snelten.

Jordan Parr went 2 for 6 with his fifth homerun of the season and Second baseman Justin Protacio (Kansas) finished his night 2 for 4 with a walk and two runs to improve his hitting streak to six games.

The Honkers (3-5, 18-25) will be back in Rochester tomorrow, July 13th, to take on the St. Cloud Rox (4-5, 13-30) in game-one of a quick two-game set beginning at 7:05 PM. Lefty Matt Kent (Texas A&M) will get the start for the Honkers in the series opener. Kent is 2-3 with a 2.47 ERA in six starts. Pitching for the Rox will be righty Keaton Siomkin (California). Siomkin has struggled this summer with an 0-2 record in seven outings and a high ERA of 8.28.

Stay after the game for a Fireworks Extravaganza.
