Home-And-Home with Mallards Starts as Defensive Battle

December 21, 2013 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
St. Charles Chill News Release

Moline, Ill. - The Chill and Mallards combined to go 0-for-12 on the power play (both teams 0-6) and an unassisted goal from Gabriel Levesque at the 19:08 mark of the second period stood as the game-winner for Quad City who's win on home ice sets up the rubber match of this three-games-in-five-days series on Sunday at The Family Arena starting at 4:05.

St. Charles (7-15-4) spent nearly the entire last half of the first period on the penalty kill, and killed off all seven Quad City opportunities on the night, limiting them to just eight shots in the opening period.

Levesque scored his goal unassisted with under a minute left in the second period to give the Mallards the lead and Chill goalie Robby Moss helped keep his team in the game. Moss turned aside 32-of-33 shots on the night as St. Charles battled hard to get their scoring opportunities despite playing a man short on the bench. The effort should move Moss into the top five in goals-against-average in the Central Hockey League.

Thomas Heemskirk was on top of his game as well for the Mallards, turning aside all 19 shots in a hard hitting game that saw 14 penalties issued for 36 minutes.

St. Charles is back home to take on the Mallards Sunday with puck drop set for 4:05. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on the concourse to meet and take pictures with, and Pepsi Family 4-Packs are available for just $60 in advance that include four platinum level tickets, four hotdogs, four cans of Pepsi (or diet), and four bags of chips. Call the Chill front office at 636.724.SHOT. For group ticket packages, sponsorships, and more information on the St. Charles Chill visit StCharlesChill.com.
