Arizona Beats Wichita 5-4

Arizona Sundogs News Release


Prescott Valley, AZ - The Arizona Sundogs beat out the Wichita Thunder Friday night at Tim's Toyota Center with a 5-4 win.

Special teams for Arizona and Wichita lit up the boards with five of the nine goals scored on the power play. 1:26 into the opening period and Sundogs' Ian Schultz notched the first goal after Jason Wilson was given two for roughing and Eric Lizon was issued a 10 minute match penalty for intent to injure. 1:45 later newly signed Sundogs player Brandon Coccimiglio ripped the puck past former Sundogs goaltender David Brown while on the power play and Bryan Cameron tallied Arizona's third goal halfway through the period. Heading into the first intermission Wichita trailed by two points after RJ Flath scored with 1:02 remaining in the first.

Less than a minute into the second frame and Jesse Dudas registered Wichita's second power play goal and 46 seconds later Alex Tuckerman scored a shorthanded 5-on-4 goal for Arizona which proved to be the game winner. Kevin Baker collected his third point of the night when he scored on the power play with assists from Bryan Cameron and Jordan Clendenning. Ian Schultz was given five for slashing and a 10 minute game misconduct leading to Wichita's third goal halfway through the second period. Wichita was the only team to score in the third with 42 seconds left in regulation after Thunder pulled their goalie for the extra attacker.

Andrew Engelage was awarded the win for Arizona blocking 32 shots. Wichita outshot Arizona 39-31. Arizona was 3-7 on the power play and Wichita was 2-7. 23 offenses were issued to for both teams tonight resulting in 71 penalty minutes.

The Sundogs and Thunder face off again tomorrow night, at Tim's Toyota Center when the puck drops at 7:05pm. Don't miss the Sundogs annual teddy bear toss and specialty holiday jerseys.
