USHL Lincoln Stars

Home-And-Home Set with Sioux City Wraps up Regular Season

April 11, 2024 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Lincoln Stars News Release

The Lincoln Stars' magic number sits at three with two games remaining and they look to lock up a postseason spot this weekend with a pair of games against the Sioux City Musketeers.

There are 10 different scenarios in which the Stars can clinch a playoff berth this weekend for a third consecutive season. Perhaps the simplest way to do it is with the combination of a win and a Des Moines loss on Friday night. Lincoln holds a two-point lead over the Buccaneers for the final spot in the Western Conference but is also just three points back of Sioux Falls for fifth place. Click the Game Notes above for full details on the Stars' playoff-clinching scenarios.

The Stars are coming off a weekend split last week with a 6-3 win over the Musketeers last Friday and a 3-1 loss to Omaha the next night. Friday is Lincoln's sixth consecutive home game of the season and they are 3-2 so far on this homestand. Jack Pechar scored Lincoln's lone goal last Saturday with his 19th of the season. He is a goal away from recording the 67th 20-goal season in Stars history and giving Lincoln four 20-goal scorers for the first time since 2006-07.

Blake Montgomery is tied with Keaton Peters for the team lead with 22 goals and lit the lamp twice in last Friday's victory against Sioux City. Montgomery leads the Stars with four goals against the Musketeers and five multi-goal games, with each of the last two coming against Sioux City.

The Muskeeters are a point ahead of the Waterloo Black Hawks for the second seed in the Western Conference and have a lot to still play for this weekend. Sioux City is looking to remain where it is and lock up a first-round bye and avoid playing this Monday and Tuesday and, if necessary, Wednesday. If the Musketeers finish in third place then they would host Game 1 of the first round before traveling to the venue of the sixth-place team for Game 2 and, if necessary, Game 3.

Friday's game is Fandemonium at the Ice Box as the Stars will honor their fans for their support all season long with prizes throughout the night. Both games can be followed by watching on FloHockey or by listening on Mixlr. Tickets for Friday's game are available at lincolnstars.com
