September 8, 2004 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Quad City Mallards News Release
Moline, IL-Quad City Mallards President and General Manager Howard Cornfield today announced the signing of defenseman Terry Hollinger. Hollinger returns to the Quad Cities after spending the 2003-04 season in a Mallards jersey. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound defenseman will begin his 13th season in pro hockey this fall with the Mallards.
Last season, the 33-year old defenseman finished second amongst Quad City d-men with 36 points (four goals and 32 assists) in 52 games. He will be counted on to provide veteran leadership on the Mallards blueline this season. He is the third defenseman to join the Mallards for 2004-05 joining rookies Alexander Skorohod and Sam Phillips.
Hollinger has appeared in 689 professional hockey games including seven games over two seasons (1993-95) with the St. Louis Blues. During his pro career, Hollinger has 84 goals and 344 assists for 428 points. He made his pro debut in spring of 1992 with the International League version of the Peoria Rivermen.
Hollinger spent nine seasons in the American and International Hockey Leagues. Hollinger won the American League's Calder Cup Championship in 1995-96 with the Rochester Americans. He was also named second team All-AHL during the 1995-96 campaign. The following year, Hollinger was named first team All-AHL during his second season in Rochester. In 1999, Hollinger appeared in the final of the International League's championship series while playing with the Orlando Solar Bears. During his time in "Triple A" hockey, Hollinger played 557 games with eight franchises. The Regina, Saskatchewan native scored 75 goals and added 271 assists for 356 points in the AHL and IHL.
"Our defense will be very young this year, and we want Terry to be the leader," said Cornfield. "He is still a dominant force at this level, and we're glad to have him back."
Including Hollinger's signing, the Mallards have 12 players under contract for 2004-05. Hollinger, Skorohod and Phillips will play defense in front of netminder Jeff Reynaert. The eight forwards signed for next season include Jeff Doyle, Drew Otten, Marty Standish, Mike Burgoyne, Ojay Hehr, Lenny Hofmann, Jason Deskins and Joe Dusbabek.
The Mallards begin the home portion of their tenth anniversary season in just 64 days on October 30th vs. Kansas City at The MARK of the Quad Cities. Season tickets are available via the Mallards ticket office at (309) 764-7825. For the latest Mallards news and ticket information, visit www.qcmallards.com.
