Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.- Rockford IceHogs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Steve Martinson announced Tuesday that the United Hockey League Club has signed defensemen Tim Wedderburn and rookie Steve Pelletier. Per club policy, terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
Wedderburn spent the past two seasons in the American Hockey League, skating for the Hershey Bears and Utah Grizzlies. During both stints in the AHL, Wedderburn appeared in 67 games. This season marks the 6-1, 215lb defenseman's third full season in the pro ranks.
"Tim played for me in the playoffs a couple of years ago and he's a really smart d-man," said Martinson. "He is an all-around defenseman who can play the power play."
The Okotoks, Alberta native appeared in one regular season game for Martinson's San Diego Gulls during the 2001-02 season after four seasons with the Prince George Cougars (WHL). Wedderburn was then added to the Gulls post-season roster, appearing in eight playoff games.
The IceHogs added it's fifth rookie to the 2004-05 roster with Pelletier. Pelletier spent the previous four seasons playing in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Last season, the 5-11,190lb defenseman led the Prince Edward Island Rockets in scoring among defenseman (9g-25a-34pts)
"We expect Steve to be one of the top rookie defenseman in the league," said Martinson. "He has a right handed shot and he can also play the power play."
Pelletier's point totals increased each season in the QMJHL. Overall, the rookie d-man appeared in 232 games at the junior level and racked up 27g-61a-83pts and 275 penalty minutes.
The IceHogs roster now contains 15 skaters with the additions of Wedderburn and Pelletier. Also signed for the fast approaching season are forwards J.F. Dufour, Chris Godin, Terry Harrison, Miguel LaFleche, Olivier Proulx, Jason Ralph, J.C.
