Holliman Goes from Fish to Triple-A

July 20, 2010 - Northern League (NL)
Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

At the end of June, Mark Holliman was the anchor of the Winnipeg Goldeyes pitching rotation. Now, just a couple weeks later, he's a step away from pulling on a Boston Red Sox uniform.

Holliman made his debut with the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox last night, striking out eight and allowing just two earned runs in six innings. Pawtucket lost the game 4-1 to the Toledo MudHens, but Holliman proved he belongs at the Triple-A level.

In his time with the Goldeyes this season, Holliman went 4-1 in eight starts with an impressive 2.02 ERA. He struck out 47 batters in 49 innings pitched. His last start came on June 26 against the Rockford RiverHawks in a 7-3 win.

After being purchased by the Boston Red Sox on June 28, Holliman was assigned to the High-A Salem Red Sox of the Carolina League. He went 2-0 in two starts with Salem and also had a save in a relief appearance. Holliman's ERA was a jaw-dropping 1.23.

Holliman is the 17th player that has been purchased by a Major League team under manager Rick Forney's watch in the last four-plus years.

The last Goldeyes player to make it to the Big Leagues is pitcher George Sherrill, who is currently with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Sherrill played with the Goldeyes during 2002 and part of the 2003 season.
