'Hogs Run Past Diablos 5-4

Grand Prairie, TX. Ernie Banks' three-run double in the bottom of the sixth sparked the Grand Prairie AirHogs to a 5-4 victory over the El Paso Diablos Thursday night in front of 3,436 fans at QuikTrip Park.

Grand Prairie won the rubber game of the three-game series with the Diablos and has won eight out of the last nine against El Paso.

The AirHogs trailed 1-0 when they loaded the bases on two singles and a walk. Banks' lined a 3-2 pitch in the gap in right center to score all three runs. The AirHogs added a pair of runs in the seventh and then held on to win the game.

Luke Prihoda gave Grand Prairie its second consecutive strong outing from a starting pitcher by going seven innings and striking out seven. He walked just one and allowed two runs.

Mitch Arnold pitched the ninth inning to pick up the save.

The Diablos broke the scoreless tie in fourth on J.D. Reininger's RBI ground out. It scored Kyle Nichols who had singled and gone to third on Bryon Smith's double.

The AirHogs were held scoreless by El Paso's Jesse Estrada for the first five innings. But in the sixth Grand Prairie got to Estrada for three runs to take a 3-1 lead.

Daniel Berg doubled to left and David Espinosa and Greg Porter walked to load the bases. Banks then lined a 3-2 offering from Estrada in the gap in right center scoring all three runners.

El Paso, however, came back with a run in the seventh on a RBI single by Adam Deleo. The Diablos still had runners in scoring position following Deleo's hit but Prihoda struck out Jeff Hullett and Jeff Vincent to end the threat.

Back came the AirHogs as Berg hit a bases loaded single to left scoring Steve Carrillo and Aaron Garza. Carrillo had singled and Garza had walked ahead of Robert Perry who beat out a bunt single.

In the eighth Kyle Nichols belted a long two-run home run to left off relief pitcher Ben Paxton to narrow the margin to 5-4.
