Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release
SHREVEPORT, La. - The Shreveport-Bossier Captains have joined radio station K-94.5 and Metro PCS to help local teens Practice Safe Text. Friday, August 20th at Fair Grounds Field teens will be able to sign the Focus on the Road Pledge and get in FREE to the Shreveport-Bossier Captains' game against the Pensacola Pelicans baseball game. Pledges can also be downloaded and filled out in advance from www.K945.com and at area Metro PCS locations. There is a limit to the amount of free tickets, so first come first served.
The pledge reads: "I pledge to keep my focus on the road while I drive. I will not use my cell phone or text while driving, and I will try to get my friends to stop using cell phones while driving too. I pledge to keep my focus on driving safely."
Did you know? Texting and driving causes you to take your eyes off the road for an average of five seconds. At 55mph, that's like driving the length of a football field completely blind! Texting and driving is also like driving after drinking four beers. Texting and driving makes you 23 times more likely to crash. Car crashes kill and average of 11 teens each day nationally.
Local State Farm agent Benjamin Lee has donated a 20" flat screen TV that will be given away during the game. A special prize from the Hit Music Channel, K 945, will be given to the school that has the most attendees sign the pledge. In addition, Jive Records will be bringing national recording artist Hot Chelle Rae perform after the game!
The Shreveport-Bossier Captains travel home on Thursday before returning home to finish their regular-season Fair Grounds Field schedule with a three-game series against the Pensacola Pelicans, starting on Friday, August 20, at 7:05 p.m. That night is GAP Broadcasting "Practice Safe Text" Night, as well as Willis-Knighton Mouth Cancer Awareness Night and BPCC Night at the ballpark. All games are broadcast streaming live on ustream.tv. For information on tickets, promotions, advertising, and other opportunities with the Captains, check out the team's Web site at www.sbcaptains.com, or call the Fair Grounds Field office at (318) 636-5555.
