Mississippi RiverKings News Release

You're sitting somewhere in the DeSoto Civic Center watching a Mississippi RiverKings hockey game. The puck is down near the RiverKings net, as players from both teams try to smack it in every direction possible.

The puck settles down, though, and the RiverKings get control of it. They rush it up the ice towards the other team's net. It looks like they have a great chance to score.

But as soon as they cross the other team's blue line, a whistle blows the play dead. The crowd boos, but you're not sure why.

You ask the person next to you why the whistle blew. That person looks at you and says one word.

"Offsides."

So what's offsides, you might ask? Well, you can find the answer to that question and others by listening to the RiverKings this weekend as they take on the Youngstown SteelHounds. RiverKings broadcaster Nikolai Busko will respond to questions on the air during the intermissions in the games on Saturday and Sunday. Fans can E-mail "Hockey 101" questions to him at msrkradio@aol.com.

"Before leaving for Corpus Christi last week, I sat down and watched part of the Predators/Bruins game on television," Busko said. "Instead of having a normal broadcast of play-by-play and analysis, Pete Weber and Terry Crisp took questions from fans and fully explained some of the game's rules and nuances. Not only did I find that refreshing and entertaining, but I also thought RiverKings fans might benefit from something similar. Besides, the more people know about the game, the more likely they are to come and watch one live."

Friday's broadcast will begin at 5:55 p.m. on Sports 56 WHBQ, with Saturday's broadcast on Y 96.1 FM also starting at 5:55 p.m. Sunday's broadcast will air on Sports 56 WHBQ at 2:55 p.m.

Again, fans can submit questions right now to msrkradio@aol.com and hear the answers on Saturday on Sunday during the intermissions.
