Oakley CHL Player/Goaltender of the Week Announced

February 4, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

The Central Hockey League announced today that the recipients for the Oakley CHL Player and Goaltender of the Week for the period ending February 3rd, 2008 are right wing Bill Vandermeer of the Amarillo Gorillas and goaltender Andy Franck of the Youngstown SteelHounds.

Vandermeer has been on fire lately and helped lead the Gorillas to two wins this past week. The Caroline, Alberta native has been a key to Amarillo's current four-game win streak and last week led the way with two goals and four assists. On Tuesday, Vandermeer scored a pair of goals with two assists in the Gorillas 9-5 road victory versus Odessa. He followed that up on Friday night with two assists in the Gorillas 5-3 victory over Arizona. On the season, the 5-11, 175-pound forward has scored 19 goals with 25 assist in 40 games played. Over his last nine games he has amassed 19 points (8-11=19).

Franck wins the goaltending weekly award for the second time this season (won after the CHL's first week of the season). Last week, the Lakewood, Ohio native won two road games allowing four goals. In Friday's 4-1 victory at Odessa, Franck turned away 28 shots and then on Saturday he stopped 44 of 47 shots in Youngstown's 4-3 shootout victory at Oklahoma City. Franck, the Northern Conference's starting goaltender in the 2008 CHL All-Star Game on January 16th, is 16-7-1 on the season. His 2.80 goals against average is eighth in the league. Earlier this season, the 6-1, 195-pound goaltender enjoyed a successful call-up to the AHL's Providence Bruins by going 7-1-1.

In recognition of their achievements, both Vandermeer and Franck will receive a special gift from Oakley.
