2-0-0 On The Road

After going 0-6-0 in their last six road games the Youngstown SteelHounds returned to their old winning ways away from home winning both games in their weekend trip. Friday night Andy Franck made 28 saves on 29 shots at the Hounds defeated the Odessa Jackalopes 4-1. Petr Pohl and Kevin Jarman each recorded shorthanded, empty net goals in the third period for the Hounds. Saturday night the Hounds trailed the Oklahoma City Blazers 3-1 after one period in front of 10, 648 people at the Ford Center. Youngstown came back though with goals from Eric Przepiorka and Joel Irving to tie the game 3-3 and force overtime and an eventual shootout. In the shootout Andy Franck stopped four-of-five Blazers shots and Eric Przepiorka and Jason Baird scored to give the Hounds a 4-3 win. Franck made 44 saves on 47 shots in the win. The Hounds are now 16-9-1 away from the Chevrolet Centre this season.

What's On Tap: Five Games in Six Days

The Hounds will go through their most difficult stretch of the season this week as they will play five games in six days. The good news is that all six games will be inside the Chevrolet Centre. The week begins Tuesday morning when the Hounds host the Texas Brahmas at 10:35am for the annual "Kids Day" game. A special edition of "Hockey Night in Y-Town" will start at 10:00am on ESPN Radio 1240 and SteelHounds.com. The Hounds will then host the Brahmas on Wednesday night at 7:05. The SteelHounds will get one day off before the Mississippi RiverKings come calling for the final three games of their regular season series on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Friday and Saturday are 7:05 starts and Sunday's face-off is at 4:05. The Hounds and Kings are currently tied for second in the Northeast Division and fourth in the conference as both teams have an identical record of 25-14-2 (52 points). These two teams have split the previous eight meetings with both teams going 4-4-0 with none of the games going past regulation. Franck Named Goaltender of the Week

The Youngstown SteelHounds in conjunction with the Central Hockey League announced today Hounds goaltender Andy Franck has been named the Oakley CHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending February 3rd. This is the second Goaltender of the Week honor for Franck. Franck was also honored on October 22nd after beginning the year 2-0-0. The third year pro from Lakewood, Ohio went 2-0-0 over the weekend to help lead the Hounds to their current three-game winning streak. In two games he surrendered just four goals on 76 shots for a .947 save percentage. Friday night at the Odessa Jackalopes he made 28 saves on 29 shots as the Hounds won 4-1. The win snapped Youngstown's six game road losing streak. Saturday night in Oklahoma City he gave up three goals on 18 shots in the first period but was flawless the rest of the way as racked up a total of 44 saves on 47 shots to lead the Hounds to a 4-3 shootout victory. The first year CHL All Star stopped four of five Blazers shots in the shootout. He is 16-7-1 with a 2.80 goals against average and a .903 save percentage in his first year with the SteelHounds.

The Top Vote Getter

Hounds forward Eric Przepiorka has been continuing to rack up the points as he became the first Hound to score 20 goals and record 50 points this season. The second year pro out of Dartmouth had a goal and two assists on Friday night against Odessa as well as a goal and an assist at Oklahoma City the following night. He has scored at least two points (three goals and five assists) in three straight games. He has 29 assists to go with his team leading 21 goals, 50 points and +17 +/- rating for the season.

Player Updates

Last week Head Coach Kevin Kaminski was very busy making changes and bringing players back from the injured reserve list. Forward Jason Baird and Defenseman Milan Maslonka were activated from the 14 day injured reserve list. Baird scored the game winner in the shootout on Saturday night while Maslonka had 10 penalty minutes on Saturday night. Baird was acquired from Corpus Christi in November has eight goals and 10 assists in 22 games for Youngstown. Counting his 10 games with the Rayz he has a total of nine goals, 13 assists and 101 penalty minutes. Maslonka is third in the CHL in penalty minutes with 184. He has two goals, four assists and a +5 +/- rating in 34 games this season. Recent acquisitions Jeff Genovy and Kevin Beech joined the team from the Laredo Bucks over the weekend. Goaltender Kevin Beech did suit up but did not see any action while forward Jeff Genovy had two penalty minutes in his first two games for the Hounds.

$1.00 Beers, Autographs and More

The Hounds have some exciting action happening both on and off the ice all week long. Friday night it is the first ever "Fan Appreciation Friday" in Chevrolet Centre history as all fans 21 years and older will receive beer for $1.00 each. Saturday is a special double header as the second annual "Guns-N-Hoses" game featuring Youngstown police and fire department teams will play at 4:00pm with the Hounds and Kings going at it at 7:05. Sunday is a 4:05 start and fans are encouraged to bring their memorabilia as the Hounds will sign it in a special post-game autograph session.
