Rocky Mountain Rage Weekly Update
February 4, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rocky Mountain Rage News Release
Jan. 30 @ Laredo Bucks, 4-3 Shootout Loss - After falling behind, 3-1, through two periods, the Rage used goals from Nathan Rosychuk and Scott Wray to quickly tie the game early in the third period. After a scoreless overtime, Rocky Mountain eventually fell in the sixth round of the shootout, dropping the team's record to 1-2-1 on its current road swing.
Feb. 1 @ Corpus Christi Rayz, 4-3 Loss - Despite a hat trick from David Morelli, Rocky Mountain was unable to hold a 3-2 lead late in the third period as the Rayz scored twice in the final 4½ minutes to steal a 4-3 decision.
Feb. 2 @ Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees, 5-3 Win - The Rage dominated the first two periods, out-shooting Rio Grande Valley, 33-12, on their way to a 5-0 lead. The Bees scored twice in the third period's first 60 seconds to give a hint of a rally that never really developed, as their third goal did not occur until there was just more than a minute remaining in the game.

SEVEN-GAME TREK FINALLY ENDS TOMORROW
The Rage's longest road swing of the season, a five-city tour that began in Youngstown, Ohio, and continued down through South Texas finally concludes tomorrow morning with a Kids Day game against the Tulsa Oilers. The Rage enter the finale with a chance to get back to .500 for the trip after going 2-3-1 through the first six games.
NORTHWEST LEAD EXTENDED
Despite weathering its longest winless skid of the season, a three-game slide that was snapped on Saturday against the Killer Bees, Rocky Mountain still managed to extend its division lead over the second-place Colorado Eagles. The Rage sit atop the Northwest Division nine points ahead of the Eagles, who lost all three games they played last week. Rocky Mountain is second overall in the Northern Conference, four points behind the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, who have earned points in 22 straight games.
RYCROFT NEARS CENTURY MARK
For the first time since Jan. 5, Daymen Rycroft did not score a goal last Wednesday in Laredo, ending his league season-high 10-game goal-scoring streak over which he tallied 15 markers. After two games without lighting the lamp, the league's leading goal scorer jumped right back into the goal column on Saturday with a pair against the Killer Bees, which included his 16th power play and ninth game-winning goal, both CHL highs. The January Player of the Month now has 36 goals this season and his next tally will be the 100th of his four-year professional career.
AND 10 MAKES 9
When David Morelli notched the team's sixth hat trick of the season on Friday in Corpus Christi, he became the ninth Rage player to score at least 10 goals this season, giving the club the most double-digit goal scorers in the league.
CULLATON OUT OF THE LINE-UP
Rage captain Brent Cullaton was injured during his return last Wednesday to Laredo, where he led the Bucks to three straight trips to the President's Cup Finals and two titles from 2003-06. The injury will keep him out of several games, but no exact timetable has been set for his return.
LEAGUE LEADERS
Cullaton leads the league with 54 assists and is tied for third with 66 points...In addition to Rycroft's goal-scoring prowess, he also has 60 points overall, fifth best in the CHL...Scott Wray is tied for fourth with 24 goals and tied for ninth with 55 points...Tyler Butler is tied for third in scoring among defensemen with 40 points (12g-28a)...Despite having gone winless over his last four starts, goaltender Scott Reid still leads the CHL with 19 victories.
