Hobson Quest On Hold

Butch Hobson's quest for a 1500th managerial victory was put on hold for a day as Scott Knazek homered, doubled and drove in three, leading Camden to a 6-3 win over the Lancaster Barnstormers Wednesday evening at Campbell's Field.

The loss dropped Lancaster into a first place tie with the Somerset Patriots in the Atlantic League's Freedom Division.

Knazek, playing in his first game with Camden, blasted a Mark Brackman (0-1) pitch deep over the left field wall with Jake Eigsti aboard to snap a 1-1 tie in the third inning. After the Barnstormers fought back to on Jaime Pedroza's two-run single in the top of the fourth, Knazek delivered a double to left center, again driving in Eigsti.

Camden continued to score in the fourth inning. Chris Walker singled to left to knock in Knazek for a 5-3 lead. Walker stole second and scored when Lloyd Turner lined a single to center.

The bullpens proved to be particularly stingy. Lancaster's retired 13 of 14 Camden batters with the lone exception reaching on a throwing error. A trio of Camden right-handers allowed four hits but struck out seven. John Lujan picked up his second save, finishing the night with a swinging strikeout of Fehlandt Lentini.

Lancaster banged out 13 hits off Keith Weiser (1-1) and the Camden bullpen, but double plays cut rallies short in the second, fifth and seventh innings. The Barnstormers finished the night 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

Lentini and Drew Macias opened the scoring, exchanging solo homers in the first inning.

The Barnstormers and Riversharks will meet in the rubber game of the three-game series on Thursday morning at 11:00. John Halama (2-1) will get the start against Mike McGuire (2-1). Following the game, the Barnstormers will return home to face York in a three-game weekend series.

NOTES: Merchan went 3-for-4 to boost his average to .509...Emerson Frostad also collected three hits and is now 14-for-21 in his last six and is hitting .419 for the year...Lentini kept his average at .418, going 2-for-5, and Adam Godwin went 1-for-4 as his average checks in at .403...They are the top four hitters among players currently active in the Atlantic League...The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Barnstormers.
