GASTONIA, N.C. - Michael Heesch fired a complete game, three-hitter and kept the HiToms off balance all night as Gastonia took game one of the best of three series 4-0 from the HiToms on Thursday night at Sims Legion Park.

Gastonia (30-26) broke a scoreless game open in the fourth inning as they scored four times against Brian Holmes (L 0-1). After back to back base hits and a hit by pitch, the bases were loaded for Adam Lavelle who doubled down the left field line to score a pair. One hitter later, Joe Ramirez laced a ball to the gap in right centerfield to score two more runs and after four, the Grizzlies had a 4-0 advantage.

Those four runs would be more than enough for Heesch (W 1-0) who allowed just three hits over his nine innings of work and retired the first 10 men he faced to begin the contest.

The HiToms (31-26) had their best chance to score in the sixth inning when they put runners at first and third with just one out, however, Tanner Mathis lined out to third and Brock Hebert was doubled off first on the play to run the Tommies out of the inning.

Game two of the best of three series will be Friday night at historic Finch Field. First pitch is slated for 7:00 and fans can enjoy one dollar hot dogs, 12 ounce fountain drinks and soda all night long.
