Steamers Set CPL Record for Most Wins in a Half

August 4, 2011 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain) News Release

Perhaps the best statistical season in Edenton Steamers franchise history came to a close with an 11-3 win over the Outer Banks Daredevils on Tuesday. That win moved Edenton, who currently is ranked as the top summer collegiate team in the country, to 44-11 overall and 25-3 in the second half. The 25 wins in a half breaks the old CPL record of 24 set by the Forest City Owls in 2009. Meanwhile, the Steamers ‚¬â„¢ 44 overall regular season wins was good for the second-best mark ever, behind the same Owls squad, who had 46 in 2009.

The Steamers broke eleven team franchise records in 2011, including consecutive winning seasons, winning percentage, wins in a season, runs scored, triples. RBI, total bases, stolen bases, slugging percentage, on-base percentage and walks.

Along with the team franchise records that fell, some individual marks were set in 2011 as well. Joey Wendle, out of West Chester University (PA) tied the Steamers franchise record for batting average (.377 by Brett Nomenson in 2008), set new standards for hits in a season (81) and assists by a second baseman (158), as well as total bases (109). Ryan Brenner (Miami of Ohio) set a new Steamer franchise mark in stolen bases with 35 and put-outs by an outfielder with 124. Dustin Quattrocchi became the most used Steamer in their history, making 36 appearances out of the bullpen in 2011.
