High Point-Thomasville HiToms News Release

THOMASVILLE, N.C. - Forest City erased a three-run deficit over the last two innings, but failed hold Thomasville at bay in the ninth as Kevin Sanders scored on a wild pitch to give the HiToms a 4-3 victory.

With the game tied and two outs, the Owls and HiToms looked destined for free baseball, but, Reed Harper dropped a pop up in shallow left field to extend the inning which allowed the Tommies to load the bases for James Harris who watched the Nick Lomascolo pitch sail wide of the catcher allowing Kevin Sanders to cross home plate with the winning run.

Thomasville (4-5) took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning as Patrick Koontz homered over the wall in center field to stake Brian Holmes to a three run cushion.

However, Forest City (6-5) came roaring back against the Thomasville bullpen as they made it a one run game in the eighth when Matt Dillion gave up a two-run shot to Reed Harper. The Owls would eventually tie the game with two outs in the ninth inning against HiToms closer Travis Tingle (W, 1-0) as Konstantie Dimadorus doubled to left to plate PJ Torres and tie the game at three before Sanders scored on the wild pitch with two outs in the ninth to win it for Thomasville.

Both starting pitchers did a marvelous job as Lomascolo worked all 8 2/3 allowing just five hits and two earned runs while striking out six. Meanwhile, Holmes worked six shutout innings for the HiToms allowing just three hits and fanning seven to earn a no decision.

The two clubs square off again on Saturday night at McNair Field in Forest City with first pitch set for 7:30. The HiToms return to Finch Field on Sunday at 5:00 when they host the Asheboro Copperheads.
