
Hitmen Win Playoff Opener in OT

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen opened the 2013 Western Hockey League Playoffs with a 6-5 overtime victory against the Swift Current Broncos Thursday evening at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Alex Roach, who was recently named to the WHL Eastern Conference Second All-Star Team, scored the game-winning goal less than 30 seconds into the extra frame.
Brady Brassart recorded his first career WHL hat trick in the win, while Greg Chase also registered a multi-point effort chipping in a pair of helpers. Brooks Macek and Colten Mayor completed Calgary's scoring tally.
Calgary Flames' prospect Coda Gordon (1g, 1a), Graham Black (1g, 1a), Ryon Moser (1g, 1a) and Colby Cave (2a) recorded two points each for the Broncos, while Adam Lowry and Levi Bews also scored for the visitors.
Chris Driedger made 23 saves to record the win as Calgary outshot Swift Current 38-28.
The Husky WHL Eastern Conference Quarter-Final continues tomorrow, Friday, March 22, with Game 2 of the best-of-seven series. Puck drop is 7 p.m. at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
