Hitmen Open 2015 Training Camp with Rookie Fitness Testing

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club opened their 2015 Training Camp today at Scotiabank Saddledome with rookie fitness testing. A total of 80 Hitmen prospects were put through a series of five tests conducted by Hitmen strength and conditioning coach Sean Hope-Ross.

"The players were well prepared for camp and it showed in their testing results," said Mike Moore, Hitmen General Manager and Vice President of Business Operations. "It's a good indicator of the expected compete level we will see in rookie camp and as we move to main camp to begin the process of selecting our team for the upcoming season."

Rookie camp moves to Don Hartman North East Sportsplex (5206 - 68 Street NE) for on-ice practices and games beginning tomorrow, Friday, August 28 at 8:30 a.m. The top rookies will then advance to main camp which opens Saturday afternoon with fitness testing.

All on-ice sessions are free and open to the public.

The camp is highlighted by the annual Calgary Hitmen Intra-Squad game which will be held on Tuesday, September 1 at 7 p.m. The contest will be hosted by the AJHL's Calgary Canucks and played at the Max Bell Centre. Adult tickets are $5 and child tickets $2 with all proceeds supporting the Canucks.

The Hitmen open their seven-game exhibition schedule on Thursday, September 3 in Regina against the Pats. The schedule also features the first-ever pre-season game at the Scotiabank Saddledome when the Hitmen host the Edmonton Oil Kings on Sunday, September 13 in a 3:00 p.m. start. Tickets, $5 for adults and $2 for kids 12 and under (includes convenience fees), are available now at Ticketmaster locations and the Scotiabank Saddledome box office.

Calgary will then begin their 72-game 2015-16 regular season schedule with a home-and-home series against the Kootenay ICE. It begins on Friday, September 25 in Cranbrook before returning to the Scotiabank Saddledome for the Adrenalin Source For Sports Home Opener on Saturday, September 26. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
