CALGARY HITMEN NEWS AND NOTES

HITMEN HEADLINES: The Calgary Hitmen play game two of a season high six game home stand Wednesday night when they welcome the Kootenay Ice. The Hitmen have dropped three straight and are coming off Saturday's 3-2 loss to Kamloops. After building a 2-0 lead after forty minutes on goals from Cody Beach and Tyler Fiddler, the Hitmen saw their lead evaporate in the final frame as the Blazers struck for three unanswered goals. Kamloops went 1-6 on the powerplay while Calgary was 0-4. Final shots favored the Blazers at 28-25.

VS KOOTENAY: Wednesday is the second of eight meetings with the Ice. Kootenay leads the season series 1-0.

- Saturday, Sept. 25 in Cranbrook; Ice 4 Hitmen 0. Ice goalie Nathan Lieuwen pitched a 25 save shutout while Flames prospect Max Reinhart scored twice.

The Hitmen and Ice will meet again on Saturday, November 6th in Cranbrook.

CENTRAL FOES: Wednesday's game against the Ice will mark only the fourth meeting with a Central Division opponent for the Hitmen this season. So far Calgary is 1-2 against teams from their own division.

TEAM WHL: Hitmen Head Coach Mike Williamson will serve as an assistant coach for Team WHL at the next month's Subway Super Series Games. Games will be played in Kamloops November 17th and Prince George November 18th. Meanwhile defenceman Matt MacKenzie has been selected to play in both games while Jimmy Bubnick will play in Prince George.

DID YOU KNOW? Hitmen leading scorer Cody Beach is a second cousin to Texas starting pitcher Rich Harden who went 5-5 with the Rangers this season.

STREAKIN: Misha Fisenko (1g 1a) has points in back-to-back games.

SHOT CLOCK: The Hitmen are averaging 28.9 shots per game while giving up an average of 29.7.

2009-10 GRAD: Brandon Kozun is in the AHL with the Manchester Monarchs. Through eight games, the LA Kings prospect has eight points (5g 3a) along with 23 shots on goal.

HOMEGROWN TALENT: Of the 24 players on the Hitmen roster, nine are from the Calgary area; Kris Foucault (Calgary), Peter Kosterman (Calgary), Keaton Lubin (Okotoks), Matt MacKenzie (Calgary), Riley Reinbolt (Calgary), Brendan Santini (Calgary), Rob Trzonkowski (Calgary), Michael Snider (DeWinton) and Ben Wilson (Calgary).

BEATTIE HOMES HOCKEY MUMS FIGHT BREAST CANCER: The 2nd annual Hockey Mums Fight Breast Cancer Campaign is underway. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month with the Hitmen wearing their pink and black retro jersey for all seven home games this month. The players are also sporting pink and black gloves with both the jerseys and gloves to be auctioned online in early March. The Hitmen vs. Red Deer Rebels game on March 13th is designated as the Beattie Homes Hockey Mums Fight Breast Cancer Game with the pink and back jerseys and gloves to be worn again.

SPECIAL TEAMS: Calgary is 10th in the WHL (10-52) at 19.2%. Meanwhile the penalty kill is ranked 17th having given up 12 goals on 58 chances 77.6%.

OUTDOOR GAME: The Hitmen will host the Regina Pats at McMahon Stadium on Monday, February 21st. Game time is 1:00 p.m.

UPCOMING GAMES: The Hitmen return to action Friday night to host Calgary Flames prospect Ryan Howse and the Chilliwack Bruins. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
