Calgary, AB - Chris Driedger made 22 saves to record his fifth career WHL shutout as the Calgary Hitmen blanked the Lethbridge Hurricanes 9-0 Saturday evening at the Scotiabank Saddledome. The win improves Calgary to 43-20-1-4 on the season and guarantees a third place finish in the Eastern Conference standings.
After a scoreless opening frame, Brooks Macek, Cody Sylvester and Victor Rask (1g, 2a) each netted goals in the second period. Macek added a pair of goals in the final frame to complete his third career WHL hat trick, while Sylvester recorded his second of the night. Jake Virtanen (1g, 2a), Brady Brassart (1g, 1a) and Pavlo Padakin (1g, 1a) extended the third period scoring.
The line of Virtanen, Rask and Macek combined for nine points in the win as Calgary has now recorded at least a point in 10 of their last 11 home games.
The Hitmen return to action tomorrow, Sunday, March 10, when Calgary hosts the Red Deer Rebels (39-24-4-2).
