Hitmen and CMHA-Calgary Region Team Up to Raise Awareness About Mental Health

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club and Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) - Calgary Region are teaming up to raise awareness about the importance of mental health during Friday's home game at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
The Hitmen game on Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. will feature:
A special pre-game ceremony welcoming two counsellors from the CMHA
A CMHA-run kiosk behind section 211 where fans can learn more about mental health
Videos featuring Hitmen players talking about the importance of mental health
The awareness campaign is part of the ongoing commitment by the Hitmen and CMHA - Calgary Region to implement Talk Today. Talk Today provides mental health support to players and raises awareness about mental health and suicide prevention throughout communities across the Western Hockey League.
A key piece of the Talk Today program has been to educate players about mental health and suicide prevention. Each team is now linked to a CMHA Mental Health Coach who provides support and mental health resources to individuals in need.
"We're extremely grateful to partner with the Calgary Hitmen to host Talk Today to increase public awareness and to promote mental health in this community", said Laureen MacNeil, Executive Director of CMHA - Calgary Region. "The Calgary Hitmen players and coaches are seen as leaders in the Calgary community. Through their leadership and initiative in completing the Talk Today program, not only will the players and coaches be encouraged to speak openly about mental health and suicide, those who look up to the Hitmen will know that they are not alone if they are struggling."
