Hinson Ties Club Record in Series Opening Win

WINNIPEG, Manitoba- The Wichita Wingnuts beat the Winnipeg Goldeyes 3-1 in their inaugural meeting at Shaw Park on Friday night.
Ryan Hinson allowed one earned run over eight innings pitched to earn his 11th win of the season, tying Derek Blacksher's single-season team record set back in 2009.
Tied at 1-1 in the top of the seventh, Peter Barrows grounded a leadoff single through the left side against Goldeyes' starter Luis Villarreal. After Edwin Bellorin sacrificed Barrows to second, Villarreal was replaced by Aaron Cook. Jose Duran hit a chopper to shortstop that was mishandled by Wes Long and gave the Wingnuts first and third with one out. Mike Conroy ripped a double off the fence in right-center field to score Barrows and Duran with the go-ahead runs.
Hinson Worked around a hit batsman in the seventh and then retired the side in order in the eighth before turning the ball over to Josh Dew. Dew worked a scoreless bottom of the ninth to earn his 17the save of the year.
Hinson scattered seven hits, struck out four, and walked only won. Hinson has now won four consecutive starts. Hinson retired the leadoff hitter in seven of eight innings.
Wichita scored the first run of the night in the top of the first. Conroy led off the game with a walk and moved to second on a bunt single from Josh Horn. Juan Richardson's fielder's choice to shortstop gave Wichita runners on the corners. Conroy came home on a broken bat groundout to first base.
Winnipeg tied it in the fifth, scoring their only run of the game. Ridge Carpenter was ruled safe at first on a one-out bunt attempt along the third base line. After Hinson retired Price Kendall on a popup to first base, Kody Kaiser sliced a double to deep right-center to score Carpenter with the tying run.
Villarreal took the loss, allowing two earned runs on six hits in six and one-third innings. Villarreal walked two and struck out three.
