SHREVEPORT, La.---A five-run seventh inning helped Ft. Worth defeat the Captains 11-4 in the final game of their homestand at Fair Grounds Field Thursday night. Cats centerfielder Ryan Patterson and rightfielder Marcos Rodriguez each had four hits as Ft. Worth pounded out 20 hits in the game. Shreveport-Bossier ends their six-game homestand with a 3-3 record and heads off to Gary-SouthShore to begin a six-game set with the first-place RailCats.

Leading 6-4 in the seventh, Ft. Worth put the game away by sending ten men to the plate and scoring half of them. Captains reliever Mark Haynes walked Aljay Davis to start the inning, then gave up a double to Will Calhoun before intentionally walking Marcos Rodriguez with one out to load the bases. Jameson Maj came on to pitch and gave up RBI singles to Kelley Gulledge and Trent Lockwood, making it 8-4.

John Allen then hit a potential double-play grounded to second that went through the legs of Mike Provencher, scoring two more runs. A Cory Morales single would score Allen to give the Cats the 11-4 advantage.

Ft. Worth scored five runs (three earned) off Shreveport-Bossier starter Osvaldo Rodriguez (L, 5-5). He pitched 4.2 innings, allowing 12 hits and three walks while striking out three.

The Captains scored first when Mike Provencher came home on a Bryan Sabatella sacrifice fly. Provencher, who went 1-for-3 with a pair of walks, scored three times. The Cats would take the one-run lead in the second. Davis scored on a Palmer Karr Jr. error on a single by Calhoun. A Ryan Patterson base hit would score Calhoun to make it 2-1.

A Robert Perry triple scored Provencher in the third to tie the game. Karr was thrown out at home on a Chad Gabriel single by Cats leftfielder Davis to end the inning In the fourth, Ft. Worth would take the lead for good on a pair of singles off the bat of Patterson and Rodriguez. They would add a run in the fifth on a Patterson base hit, scoring Kinzler.

Shreveport-Bossier would get to within a run in the fifth. Jonathan Johnson singled to start the inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by Perry. A Gabriel single would score Provencher for the third time and cut the lead to 5-4. But the Cats scored once in the sixth on a double by Allen and then the floodgates opened in the seventh.

Cats starter Wade Mackey (W, 6-4) improved to 2-0 against the Captains, throwing five innings and allowing four runs on eight hits. He walked three and struck out three. Just as effective were the Ft. Worth reliever, who held the Captains to just one baserunner over the game's final four innings. Griffin Bailey pitched three scoreless innings and Nick DeBarr pitched a 1-2-3 ninth with two strikeouts.

Calhoun went 3-for-6 with three runs. Patterson had a 4-for-6 night with three RBIs. Rodriguez was 4-for-5 with a run and an RBI. He finished the series with a team-high nine hits. Gulledge went 3-for-6 with a run and an RBI, while Davis scored three times and went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks.

For Shreveport-Bossier, Perry went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. He had five runs batted in on the homestand. Gabriel and Johnson each had 2-for-4 nights in the losing effort.

The Captains send righthander Robert Bono (0-1, 21.60) to the hill Friday night in Gary against RailCats lefthander Alain Quijano (5-4, 5.54). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
