August 12, 2011 - American Association (AA) News Release

Grand Prairie 12, El Paso 2

The AirHogs scored three runs in four different innings to take a 12-2 win over the Diablos on Friday. Grand Prairie DH Joey Gomes had game highs in hits, runs and RBI - going 4-for-5, scoring three times and batting in four, including a three-run homer in the eighth. The Diablos went on top, 2-0, in the first. But from that point on, starting Grand Prairie pitcher John Brownell didn't allow another run. Brownell picked up the win, tossing seven and two-thirds innings, allowing 10 hits with six strikeouts. For the Diablos, Javier Brito went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Wichita 3, Winnipeg 1

With the score tied at one in the seventh inning, Wingnuts CF Mike Conroy doubled in two runs to lead his club to a 3-1 win. It was Conroy's only hit of the night. Starting Wichita pitcher Ryan Hinson tossed eight innings, allowing just one run on seven hits with four strikeouts. Winnipeg's lone run came on a fifth-inning double from Kody Kaiser, who went 2-for-4 on the night. For Wichita, only SS Josh Horn registered more than one hit, going 2-for-4 on the night.

Sioux Falls 5, Sioux City 4

With the bases loaded, the score tied and one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, Sioux Falls DH Mark Shorey watched four straight pitches - all of them balls - and took a game-winning walk from Explorers' reliever Eddie Delacruz. And without a hit in the game, Shorey became the hero. Sioux City held two one-run leads in the game. But each time they found themselves on top, the Pheasants tied the score or took the lead in the bottom of the frame. For Sioux City, 1B Kent Sakamoto went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Fort Worth 8, Amarillo 3

Fort Worth 1B Trent Lockwood homered twice, batting in three runs and scoring three of his own to lead the Cats to an 8-3 win. Lockwood's first blast was the first of two in a row for Fort Worth, with DH John Allen following Lockwood's blast with one of his own. Allen went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Starting Cats pitcher Daniel Schmidt threw six and a third innings and allowed three runs on seven hits with two strikeouts. It was Schmidt's first victory with Fort Worth. The Sox also had multiple home runs, the first a sixth-inning blast from 1B Lee Cruz and the second one inning later from C Josh Banda. But it wasn't enough to keep Amarillo in the game.

Gary SouthShore 8, Shreveport-Bossier 4

The Captains held a brief, 2-1 lead over Gary SouthShore in the top of the fifth inning. But in the bottom of the frame, the RailCats put three on the board and never trailed again. The first two of those runs came on a Brad Boyer triple. Boyer went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Shreveport-Bossier 2B Mike Provencher had a game-high three hits - one a two-run ninth-inning homer - but didn't have enough help on offense to keep his club in the game.

Lincoln 9, Kansas City 7

The Saltdogs put four runs on the board in the top of the ninth. And it turned out to be a good thing. Kansas City scored two in the bottom of the frame, but couldn't match Lincoln and the Saltdogs finished with the win. Lincoln also scored four runs in the fifth to go from a 2-1 deficit to a 5-2 lead. Saltdogs LF Curt Smith went a perfect 4-for-4 with a run and an RBI. For Kansas City RF Ray Sadler hit a homer in going 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Kala Kaaihue also homered for the T-Bones in the losing effort, going 1-for-3.
