Salem-Keizer Volcanoes News Release
C.J. Hinojosa has been tabbed as the Northwest League's Offensive Player of the Week for August 10-16 the league announced Monday.
Hinojosa's player of the week award was the third such award for a Volcano in 2015. Nolan Riggs was the league's pitcher of the week for June 22-28 while Jose Vizcaino Jr. was selected as the offensive player for July 6-12.
Hinojosa's week was certainly deserving of the award. The 11th rounder out of Texas compiled a .467 average with an .852 slugging percentage including seven extra-base hits, six RBIs and six runs scored. He notched extra-base hits in six consecutive games for the first time in Salem-Keizer history since Johnny Monell, future major leaguer, had an extra-base hit in seven straight games from August 20-26, 2008. He also homered in three straight, one game shy of the club record.
In a ten-day span, Hinojosa managed to raise his batting average from .248 to .302, a span where he had four three-hit games and a pair of two-hit efforts. His seven extra-base hits on the week ranked second in all of Minor League Baseball.
The Volcanoes are in the midst of a second-half playoff chase with the Hillsboro Hops and Eugene Emeralds, looking to punch their ticket to the Northwest League playoffs. Salem-Keizer hosts both clubs in a six-game home stand spanning Monday, August 17 through Saturday, August 22.
