April 26, 2024 - Carolina League (CarL)
Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
The Lynchburg Hillcats walked away victorious after another pitcher's duel, knocking out the Myrtle Beach Pelicans by a score of 3-2 on Friday night.
The Hillcats did not allow an earned run over the course of the ballgame. Yorman Gomez would pick up the win after pitching five innings of relief, racking up seven strikeouts.
Jose Pastrano put Lynchburg on the board in the second inning with a line drive single to left field that would plate two. The base hit came with the bases loaded and two outs, a situation the Hillcats had struggled in all season.
The lead would not last long as the Myrtle Beach Pelicans would match them with a two-RBI single of their own from Christopher Paciolla in the fourth. For Paciolla, it was one of his three hits on the evening.
Lynchburg would retake the lead in the bottom of the fifth, courtesy of Juan Benjamin. After a Ralphy Velazquez double, Benjamin would drive him home with an RBI single to left field passed the pulled in infield, giving Lynchburg the lead for good.
Each team would have scoring opportunities later in the ballgame, but neither was able to get anything going. Steven Perez picked up his first save as a member of the Hillcats after coming on to pitch in the ninth.
The Hillcats and Pelicans will battle it out in game five of the series on Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available at Lynchburg-hillcats.com.
