Frederick Keys News Release
FREDERICK, MD - A seven-run seventh inning led the Lynchburg Hillcats (35-42, 6-4) to an 8-1 victory over the Frederick Keys (38-41, 3-7) on Saturday night at Nymeo Field. The loss ended a five-game winning streak for the Keys against the Hillcats and moved their losing streak to three games.
Frederick held a 1-0 lead going to the seventh when the Hillcats struck in a big way. Jodd Carter started out the inning with a double. Following a groundout, Anthony Miller walked. Carter then scored on a bunt from Dillon Persinger, and a throwing error from Matt Trowbridge allowed Miller and Persinger to advance.
Ernie Clement then drove in both runners with a single. A walk to Mitch Longo knocked Trowbridge out of the game as he gave way to Isaac Silva. After Silva retired Conner Capel, Li-Jen Chu hit a three-run home run. Trenton Brooks followed with a double and scored on a Carter single to make it a 7-1 Hillcats lead.
The Keys scored their run in the third. Daniel Fajardo and Cole Billingsley hit back-to-back doubles to make it a 1-0 Keys lead. Following the seven run seventh, Lynchburg would add one more run in the ninth inning on a Carter single.
Earning the win, Sam Hentges (5-5) tossed eight innings, which was the longest of his career. He allowed just one run on seven hits while striking out three. Trowbridge (2-1) took the loss. In 0.2 innings, he surrendered five runs on three hits while walking two. Lucas Humpal received a no-decision despite firing 5.2 innings of shutout baseball.
The Keys and Hillcats continue their series on Sunday afternoon. Zac Lowther (3-0, 0.71) makes the start for the Keys. He will be opposed by Hillcats left-hander Tanner Tully (2-8, 5.06). First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., and the game can be heard on frederickkeys.com and the TuneIn Radio app.
The Frederick Keys are the Advanced-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, and play their home games at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium.
