Hillcats Rally in Eighth to Defeat Shorebirds

SALISBURY, MD: The Delmarva Shorebirds (40-55) dropped their sixth game in a row on Tuesday night as they lost the series opener to the Lynchburg Hillcats (47-49) by a score of 3-1.
The Shorebirds scored the first run of the game in the opening inning as Stiven Acevedo touched home on a wild pitch, making it 1-0 Delmarva.
The score remained 1-0 in favor of the Shorebirds thanks to excellence from starting pitcher, Juan De Los Santos who threw a season-high 5.2 innings, allowing just three hits and a walk.
With the score still 1-0 in the eighth inning, Lynchburg delivered a pair of hits to tie and then take the lead. Juan Benjamin evened the game with an RBI double with two outs, followed by Wuilfredo Antunez who hit a go-ahead, two-run homer to make it 3-1 Hillcats.
Delmarva would be unable to rally in the final two innings as Lynchburg would go on to win 3-1 to take the opener in the series.
Yeury Gervacio (4-2) earned the win for Lynchburg with Randy Berigüete (0-1) suffering the loss for the Shorebirds.
Delmarva will take another crack at ending their losing streak on Wednesday night as Edgar Portes draws the start for the Shorebirds against Austin Peterson for the Hillcats with first pitch at 7:05 p.m.
