Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
Woodbridge, VA - Four different Hillcats homered Saturday night against the Nationals as Lynchburg outscored Potomac 17-7 in the double-header.
The Hillcats started early in game one. Todd Cunningham and Andrelton Simmons singled to lead off the game. Both would come around to score as the âCats would bat eight in the inning, tallying five hits, a walk, and four runs.
Lynchburg didn't let up in the second. They batted all nine on their way to another four-run frame. Todd Cunningham highlighted the inning hitting his second home run of the season.
RHP Zeke Spruill held Potomac hitless through the first four innings, before faltering a bit in the fifth.
J.P Ramirez broke up the no-hitter with a one-out single in the bottom of the fifth, starting a string of four straight hits for the Nationals. Potomac went on to score five runs on six hits in the inning, cutting the Hillcats lead to 8-5.
Adam Milligan homered in the top of the sixth. The two-run shot put the âCats up 10-5 and that's how it would finish.
Spruill (3-5) stayed in the game after the five-run fifth to pitch his second complete game of the season. He allowed five runs on six hits, one walk, while striking out six through his seven innings of work on his way to his third win of the season. Trevor Holder (2-6) only lasted one and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs on nine hits and two walks, suffering his league leading sixth loss.
Potomac struck first in game two with a solo shot from Destin Hood in the bottom of the first inning.
Braeden Schlehuber erased the Nationals 1-0 lead with a two-run shot in the top of the second inning. Schlehuber had just been activated from the disabled list earlier in the day, homering in his first at-bat back. Kyle Davis added a solo shot two batters later, and the Hillcats led 3-1.
Lynchburg added three more in the third inning, taking control of game two with a 6-1 lead.
Neither team scored again until the seventh inning, when the two squads traded runs bringing the final score to 7-2.
RHP Matthew Frevert (1-0) made his first appearance as a Hillcat, tossing two perfect innings of relief in the fifth and sixth and earned the win. RHP Paul Demny (1-5) took the loss, surrendering six runs in four innings of work.
The Hillcats swept the double-header improving to 19-27, jumping into third place in the Carolina League Northern Division.
Lynchburg and Potomac meet again Sunday afternoon at 12:05 pm for another double-header to make up for Friday night's rainout. The Hillcats On-Deck Show powered by Honda Suzuki of Lynchburg will go on the air at 11:50 am. Catch all the action at 105.5 KD Country and online at lynchburg-hillcats.com
