Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
The Salem Red Sox picked up their 600th all-time victory over the Lynchburg Hillcats after knocking them off 10-7 on Thursday night.
The Hillcats bullpen was roughed up for five runs in the final three innings of the game to put it out of reach. Lynchburg trailed from the third inning on after leading to start the ballgame.
Guy Lipscomb was the catalyst for both of the Hillcats first two runs. In the first inning, he scrambled home from third on a throwing error on a pickoff move by the pitcher. In the second inning, his steal of second allowed Bubba Filia to score from third.
However, in the top of the third, Salem would storm back. Albert Feliz would drive home Lyonell James to cut he deficit to one. A few batters later, Allan Castro would drouble home Feliz and Cutter Coffey to take the lead before Brooks Brannon drove home another runner with a base hit.
Then in the fourth, Salem would get their first of two home runs on the night thanks to Albert Feliz. He would finish the night a double short of the cycle.
Lynchburg would get a run back in the fifth inning on a Zac Fascia single that brought home Angel Genao.
Salem would extend their lead even further in the seventh inning as Coffey drove home Castro with a single. Jhostynxon Garcia would plate Coffey with a sacrifice fly later in the inning to make it a 7-4 ballgame.
The Red Sox would score two more in the eighth, putting the game away for good. James would drive home Liendo on a ground ball through the hole. Later in the inning, Coffey would smack his fourth home run of the season off the left field scoreboard.
Angel Zarate would drive home two more for the Hillcats in the eighth inning as Pres Cavenaugh and Tyresse Turner would score on an RBI single. Later in the inning Fascia would be robbed of extra bases to prevent the Hillcats from creeping any closer on a great running grab into the right field wall.
In the ninth, Salem would tack on one more as Albert Feliz finished off his four hit night with an RBI single to left. Lynchburg would score two more in the bottom of the frame, one on a Jose Devers triple and the other on a Cavenaugh fielder's choice.
Guy Lipscomb was removed from the game at the start of the seventh inning after crashing into the center field wall. He was able to walk off under his own power.
Lynchburg and Salem will square off for the 1,200th game of their all-time series on Friday evening with the first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Bank of the James Stadium.
