York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution closed out their nine-game homestand with their first shutout win of the season, blowing out the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 10-0 at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Wednesday evening. The Revs will head to Somerset to open a four-game series this weekend, before coming right back home to open a seven-game homestand beginning on Monday night.
Revs starter Shawn Hill (2-0) did not allow a run for the fifth time in as many starts, extending his scoreless streak to a club record 27.2 innings, besting the previous mark of 24.0 set by Corey Thurman in June, 2008. Hill allowed just four hits in six scoreless innings, and stranded three runners at third base. He was faced with a second-and-third, no-out situation in the sixth, but retired the next three batters to keep his remarkable streak alive.
He was provided with plenty of offensive support, as the Revs built an early lead, and blew it open late in the game.
Chris Nowak gave York a quick first inning lead with an RBI single to center, while Brandon Haveman did the same in the second inning on a line drive to right. Michael Hernandez drove an opposite field two-run homer to right in the third, as the Revs had a 4-0 lead early in Wednesday's contest.
Blue Crabs starter Dan Reichert (3-2) was charged with four runs in 5.2 innings suffering the loss. The right-hander surrendered 10 base hits, but stranded eight runners keeping the game from getting out of hand.
The Revs put it out of reach with six runs in the seventh, matching their highest-scoring inning of the year. Four walks, including an intentional walk, from reliever Jared Locke paved the way for the big frame, as Liu Rodriguez ripped a two-run single to right, Danny Gonzalez lined an RBI single to left, and Ramon Castro launched a three-run double off the Arch Nemesis for the big hits.
Rodriguez went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI, and two runs for the York offense. Haveman was 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
Omar Javier and Adam Thomas each worked perfect innings out of the Revs bullpen, while Kris Regas stranded two runners in a scoreless ninth to finish the combined five-hit shutout.
Notes: The Revs finish 5-4 on their nine-game homestand, winning two of the three series. York has now won five of its last six series, and seven of its last ten. The Revs and Blue Crabs finish the first half season series 5-5 against each other, with York taking five of the final seven meetings. Scott Grimes (0-for-2) lost a nine-game hitting streak, though he did reach twice on walks and collected a sacrifice bunt in the first inning helping set up York's first run. Castro has 18 RBI in his last 15 games. Hernandez' homer was his tenth of the season, taking over the team lead. York's Corey Thurman (4-1, 4.91) will face Somerset's Doug Arguello (3-1, 3.12) in the series opener on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. at TD Bank Ballpark. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350 and Shoutcast.com (YorkRevs) beginning at 6:30 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
