
Bridgeport Swept in Doubleheader

(Bridgeport, Conn. - June 13, 2012) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (20-26) were swept in a doubleheader against the Camden Riversharks (23-23) as the home team lost by a score of 5-3 in the first game and 4-0 in the second contest at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Wednesday.
In game one, The Bluefish had a 3-0 lead heading into the top of the fifth when the Rievrsharks came up with five runs in the frame. Marquez Smith came up with a bases clearing double after Lloyd Turner picked up an RBI single to third to account for the first hit of the game. Brian Burgamy singled home the other run of the fifth.
Luis Lopez reached base twice and drove in a run in the first inning in the opener. Pedro Lopez picked up two hits and drove in a run while walking once and stealing a base, while Kennard Jones reached base twice and drove in a run.
In his first start since 2004, Bluefish hurler, Jonah Bayliss (1-2), suffered the loss as the righthander allowed four runs on a hit and four walks while striking out five. Joe Bateman, Wynn Pelzer, and Matt Pike combined to throw the final two-and-a-third frames. The tandem surrendered one run on four hits and a walk while fanning one the rest of the way.
Bryan Corey (3-4) picked up the win for the Riversharks as the Camden starter completed five innings and allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three. Jason Bergmann and John Lujan combined to toss two scoreless innings on a hit and two walks. The relievers combined for two strikeouts and Lujan notched his eleventh save.
In the finale, Brian Burgamy smacked a two-run double to right in the first. Alvin Colina hit a solo drive to left in the fourth and followed up in the fifth with an RBI grounder to the shortstop to close the scoring.
Bridgeport starter Tobi Stoner (1-7) suffered the loss in game two as the righthander worked four innings and allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks while Camden struck out four times. Danbury, Connecticut native, Mike Tarsi struck out a batter in two scoreless while Dan Serafini contributed a scoreless seventh with a strikeout.
Camden starter, Ricky Brooks (3-0), earned the win as he tossed five scoreless on two hits and three walks. The Bluefish struck out twice against the righthander. Josh Walter and Zach Hammes combined for two scoreless frames on a hit and a walk.
Bridgeport starts a four-game series against the Lancaster Barnstormers on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Thirsty Thursday is presented by Budweiser.
