Highlanders Bruce Massey to Play in Ukraine

The Cape Breton Highlanders professional basketball team have announced that guard Bruce Massey has signed to play with BC Odessa in the Ukrainian Basketball SuperLeague. Massey will be leaving Cape Breton shortly and will not play in tonight's game in Moncton.
Massey has been a leading candidate for league MVP, averaging 24 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals in 40 minutes per game.
Massey is a league top performer in every major statistical category. He is in the NBLC top 5 for points, assists, steals, free throws, and minutes per game, and 12th for rebounding.
Despite the loss of Massey, the Highlanders are in a strong position to make the playoffs.
Top-performing players in the NBLC are frequently enticed to play in international leagues where salary caps are higher and income taxes less of a factor. With most professional careers lasting only a few years, players are compelled to take advantage of new opportunities when they arise.
Players in the NBLC are restricted from moving between teams in the league but are not restricted from leaving the NBLC to play in other leagues. Sometimes, players will return to their NBLC team in time for playoffs. A minimum of 6 games must be played to be eligible for the playoffs.
The Highlanders are placing Massey on Inactive Reserve, which allows the team to maintain his rights.
The Highlanders next game is tonight, February 21 in Moncton versus the Magic. The next home game is Wednesday, February 27 versus the KW Titans at Centre 200.
