Game Highlights
The Highlanders came into Sunday afternoon's game with a 1-0 series lead. The Highlanders were without Chris Johnson (torn Achilles) and Aaron Redpath (pulled muscle) for Sunday's game. But in the lineup, for the first time since February, were Bruce Massey and Charles Strowbridge.
Quarter 1: Highlanders 18, Hurricanes 27
Halifax had a great start by easily finding ways to score on the Highlanders. Cape Breton struggled to find ways to score on the Hurricanes defense. Halifax went up 20-6 in the first 6 minutes, but Cape Breton would rally back and cut the lead down to 9 to end the quarter.
Quarter 2: Highlanders 36, Hurricanes 56
The Hurricanes continued to control the play in the 2nd quarter. They started the period with a 14-4 run to extend their lead. Cape Breton had trouble containing the Halifax offense inside the key, which was led by Jordan Washington with 16 points at half. Halifax continued to display strong defense and forced Cape Breton to take tough shots. Halifax went into half with a comfortable 20-point lead.
Quarter 3: Highlanders 65, Hurricanes 82
The second half started off better for the Highlanders. They found ways to score on the Halifax defense and traded baskets for the first few minutes. Halifax then start picking up where they left off and added to their lead. Cape Breton mustered a run late in the quarter off of fast breaks and 3 pointers to briefly cut the lead to just 14, but a buzzer-beater 3 from Halifax's Cliff Clinkscales would send the Hurricanes into the 4th quarter with the momentum.
Quarter 4: Highlanders 84, Hurricanes 110
The final quarter was very similar to the first half. Halifax controlled the pace and continued to find ways to score on the Highlanders post defense. Cape Breton struggled to score. Halifax would keep adding to their lead, winning the game by 26 points. Cape Breton will look to retake the series lead when they come back home to play game 3 of the series Monday night at Centre 200.
