Game Highlights

Quarter 1: Highlanders 19, Hurricanes 23

The Highlanders came into Saturday night's game following a game 4 win that kept the series alive and tied at 2 wins each. Cape Breton fans in Halifax were making lots of noise to support their Highlanders in this do-or-die game 5. The game started with high intensity and both teams playing physically and fighting for every loose ball. The score remained tight throughout the quarter, but Halifax's Mike Poole got off to a hot start, ending the quarter 3 of 3 from 3-point range.

Quarter 2: Highlanders 35, Hurricanes 57

The second quarter started off much different as Halifax turned up their level of play. The first half of the quarter was dominated by Halifax, who went on a 20-4 run to extend their lead to 20 points. Cape Breton struggled to find good looks on the Hurricanes defense, while Halifax was scoring inside and out. The rest of the quarter saw the teams trading baskets, with Halifax ending the half up 22 points.

Quarter 3: Highlanders 51, Hurricanes 95

The second half was a tough one for the Highlanders. Halifax started the half off with an 8-1 run to keep adding to their lead. The strong play from the Hurricanes wouldn't stop there, as the entire quarter consisted of them building on their lead. Halifax shot the ball very well, with Terry Thomas hitting for 22 points and Mike Poole for 25 at the end of the third quarter.

Quarter 4: Highlanders 76, Hurricanes 121

The 4th quarter continued to play out the same as the past two with Halifax not letting up their pressure. The game became clearly out of reach, but Cape Breton still fought hard the rest of the way. It was an exciting and close series, but the story of game 5 was Halifax's 57% shooting percentage from the field and 45% from three, while Cape Breton was only 35% and 21%.

Halifax Hurricanes win the playoff series 3 games to 2 and advance to play the Moncton Magic in the Atlantic Division Finals.
