Game Highlights
Quarter 1: Highlanders 19, Hurricanes 21
The Highlanders came into Monday night contest after splitting games 1 and 2 with the Halifax Hurricanes. The Cape Breton crowd was into the game right away, as fan favourite Bruce Massey hit a three pointer to start the game. Halifax responded well and went on a 9-0 run to take the lead. Cape Breton turned up the pressure and a 12-4 run put them back in front. The rest of the quarter saw both teams trading leads and Halifax ended the quarter up 2.
Quarter 2: Highlanders 46, Hurricanes 40
The Highlanders came out strong to start the second quarter by going on a 9-2 run to take a solid lead. The Hurricanes quickly brought the game close, but a 9-0 run midway through the quarter would keep Cape Breton in control. The Highlanders played strong defense throughout the quarter and would end the half up 6. Cape Breton's Bruce Massey had 15 at half.
Quarter 3: Highlanders 62, Hurricanes 62
The second half saw both teams pick up their intensity. The teams traded baskets for most of the quarter. Halifax slowly chipped away at the small Highlanders lead and eventually tied the game heading into the final quarter.
Quarter 4: Highlanders 89, Hurricanes 92
The final quarter was physical as both teams picked up fouls. The game remained close but Halifax was able to string up a run with just under 4 minutes left to go to gain a 12-points lead. Following a Highlanders timeout, Cape Breton went on a 7-0 run to get right back into the game. Cape Breton made some key free throws and a missed free throw by Halifax would see the Highlanders down 3 with little time left on the clock. Cape Breton managed to get a good look but missed the tying shot at the buzzer. Cape Breton will look to keep their season alive Wednesday night in game 4 of the series.
