Moncton Takes Control

April 8, 2019 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)
Moncton Magic News Release

The Moncton Magic have jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in this best of 5 Atlantic Semi-Final against the Saint John Riptide. Alike Game 1, Game 2 followed a very similar script. Moncton found themselves trailing after the 1stquarter but then proceed to outscore Saint John by a combined 33 points through the next three quarters, defeating the Riptide, 103-77.

Moncton wasn't as efficient from the field in Game 2 as they were in Game 1. However, they racked up 42 bench points, 28 bench points more than the Riptide. Leading all bench scorers, Freddie McSwain Jr. finished with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Denzell Taylor was a perfect 6-6 with 12 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals. Jason Calliste headed up in the fourth, scoring 8 points in 1:02, finishing with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists. While, Marcus Lewis added 11 points, 3 rebounds and not to mention two rim rattling, momentum shifting dunks that led to a 15-0 scoring run by the Magic.

Trey Kell is highly praised in Moncton and rightfully so. Kell took home the Player of the Game honours finishing with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Although it has been stated countless times before, I am going to say it again. His calm demeanor, ability to control the tempo, strength over smaller guards, and his even keel state of mind make him one of the premier players in this league and he's only freshly 23 years old.

For the Saint John Riptide TJ Maston led the way for the second straight game in a row with 19 points and 9 rebounds. NBLC Rookie of the Year Frank Bartley had 17 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Jeremiah Mordi finished with 14 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals. While, Kemy Osse added 10 points and 3 rebounds.

Game 3 will take place in Saint John at Harbour Station on Wednesday, April 10that 7pm. Moncton is well aware of their previous struggles at Harbour Station during the regular season, however, it's the playoffs and the Magic are more motivated now than ever. Fans can make the trip to Saint John or tune into NBLC Live as the Moncton Magic look to close out this first round series in a sweeping fashion.
