High Point Rockers News Release
YORK, Pa.- The High Point Rockers took both games of Sunday's doubleheader against the York Revolution at PeoplesBank Park by scores of 11-4 and 6-4.
In game one, Rockers' starter Luke Westphal (1-0) was the big story in High Point's victory. Westphal was practically unhittable, surrendering two hits while walking four and striking out 10 in four innings. Westphal's 10 strikeouts were two short of the Rockers' team record of 12, held by Michael Bowden and Edwin Carl.
The Rockers got on the board in the first inning with a pair of runs, courtesy of a James McOwen double and a Logan Morrison sacrifice fly off Revolution starter Duke von Schamann (0-1). The Rockers would add another in the second inning when Logan Moore doubled to lead off and would score on a Giovanny Alfonzo sacrifice fly. The Rockers did the most damage in the sixth inning of the seven inning affair by plating six runs. The biggest blows were a pair of two-run singles by McOwen and Edwin Arroyo.
McOwen finished the game 2-3 with three RBIs, while Morrison, Arroyo, and Michael Russell each drove in two runs. Russell and Cesar Trejo each stole a base, the first two steals of the season for the Rockers.
In the nightcap, the Revolution struck early against Rockers' starter Ricky Knapp with three runs in the first inning. York third baseman Nellie Rodriguez crushed a 2-run homer off Knapp as part of his two-hit afternoon. Both teams would score in the second, but Knapp would hold the Revolution scoreless in the remaining three of his five innings. Knapp (1-0) would exit the game having surrendered four earned runs in five innings, while striking out eight and walking just two.
In the fourth inning, the Rockers would finally get to Revolution starter Austin Nicely (0-1). With three runs already across, Cesar Trejo hit his first home run in a Rockers' uniform, also tallying the first Rockers' home run of 2021. The five-run inning gave High Point (2-1) a 6-4 lead. In the bottom of the seventh, closer Jake Petricka struck out Darian Sanford to lead off the inning, and induced Melky Mesa into a game-ending double play to earn his first save of 2021.
Trejo, Logan Moore, and CJ Farias all recorded two hits in the second game. For Farias, who played collegiately at Keiser University, the hits represented the first of his professional career.
The Rockers conclude the road trip against York tomorrow at 6:30. Bryce Hensley will make his first start of the season, with York's Austin Steinfort trying to earn a series split for the Revolution. High Point returns home to Truist Point for its home opener on Tuesday, June 1 against the Lancaster Barnstormers. Tickets may be purchased at www.highpointrockers.com.
