Augusta GreenJackets News Release
NORTH AUGUSTA, SOUTH CAROLINA: The Augusta GreenJackets (62-51, 26-19) fell in the series final on Tuesday with the Hickory Crawdads (68-42, 27-17) by a final of 8-3. Frankie Tostado hit two home runs, but Augusta collected only four hits.
In the 1st inning, the Hickory Crawdads got right to work against GreenJackets starting pitcher Keaton Winn. Josh Jung drove in the game's first run with a single, then it was an RBI groundout for Miguel Aparicio to make it 2-0 Crawdads.
The GreenJackets answered with a run in the 2nd and 3rd innings. In the 2nd inning, it was Frankie Tostado with a solo home run, his 15th of the season, to cut the Hickory lead in half at 2-1. Then in the 3rd inning, with Ismael Munguia on 3rd base, Simon Whiteman grounded out to score a run and tie the game at two. In the 4th inning though, Hickory took the lead back.
The Crawdads got RBI singles from both Jonathan Ornelas and Tyreque Reed, and Hickory had a 4-2 lead. Winn ends his night after five-innings and he allows four runs. Frankie Tostado came to the plate again in the 6th inning and blasted his 2nd home run of the game. A solo shot made it just 4-3 Hickory.
The Crawdads though scored two runs in the 8th inning thanks to a two-RBI single from Pedro Gonzalez. With Hickory leading 6-3 in the 9th inning, Tyreque Reed hit his 11th home run of the year, a two-run shot to give Hickory an 8-3 lead. They'd hang on for an 8-3 victory as they split the series with the Jackets.
Player of the Game: Frankie Tostado, 2-4, 2 HR, 2 RBI
Tostado finishes with his 2nd multi-home run game of the season. The 2nd home run on Tuesday was a 422-foot shot over the right field fence. He now has 16 home runs on the season.
Thursday's Game: 7:00 PM @ Rome Braves (Atlanta Braves), State Mutual Stadium, Rome, Georgia
Pitching Matchup: (AUG) RHP Adam Oller (4-4, 3.97 ERA) @ (ROM) TBD (0-0, 0.00 ERA)
Adam Oller will open-up the series on Thursday in Rome. The right-hander went five-innings in his last outing against the Lakewood Blueclaws on August 2nd. He walked five in that appearance, but in his last two innings, he had four strikeouts and retired all six batters he faced. Oller has been great since the All-Star break. In eight starts, he has an ERA of 3.38. Oller faced Rome back on June 15th, and he went four-innings while allowing three runs. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 20th round of the 2016 MLB Draft. After the Pirates released him in November of 2018, Oller signed with the San Francisco Giants in May of 2019.
