Norfolk Admirals News Release
HERSHEY, PA - The Hershey Bears used three power play goals to defeat the Norfolk Admirals 3-1 at the Giant Center Sunday afternoon. The Admirals close out the three-game weekend grabbing four of a possible six standings points.
Penalty troubles plagued the Admirals throughout a majority of the afternoon, enabling Hershey to score the game's first goal.
Julien Brouillette's snap shot from the top of the left wing circle beat Norfolk netminder John Gibson to give the Bears a 1-0 edge at 6:21 of the opening frame.
In the closing minutes of period, Norfolk countered with a power play goal of its own. Defenseman Alex Grant fired a shot from the right point that hit off the stick of Devante Smith-Pelly who redirected it past goaltender Philipp Grubauer for the tying goal. The goal put the Admirals on the board and knotted the game at one after 20 minutes of play.
Hershey reclaimed the lead on the power play halfway through the second, as former Admiral Brandon Segal caught a pass to the right of the crease, and stuffed the puck under the pad of Gibson for the go ahead goal. Segal's 14 th marker of the season gave the Bears a one-goal advantage heading into the second break.
Penalties once again doomed the Admirals early in the third period. Norfolk's Norm Ezekiel and Antoine Laganiere both picked up minor penalties at 1:13 of the third, resulting in a 5-on-3 power play for Hershey. Despite some stellar saves by Gibson on ensuing penalty kill, Jeff Taffe was able to slip a shot past defenseman Garnet Exelby who was without a stick. The puck then banged off the off pad of Gibson and slid into the net for the third power play goal of the game for the Bears.
The Admirals were able to generate 12 shots on goal down the stretch in the third period, but Grubauer was able to keep the puck out of the net to seal the 3-1 Hershey victory.
Grubauer earns the win stopping 26 of 27 shots, while Gibson takes the loss allowing three goals on 37 shots faced. The Bears finished 3-for-9 on the power play in the game.
