Heat Drops Bulldogs 4-1

ABBOTSFORD, BRITISH COLUMBIA - Hamilton Bulldogs forward Stefan Fournier scored and goaltender Robert Mayer made 28 saves, but their efforts weren't enough as the 'Dogs (20-20-0-4) fell 4-1 to the Abbotsford Heat (28-14-3-1) on Saturday evening at Abbotsford Entertainment & Sports Centre.

Abbotsford forward Max Reinhart opened the scoring on the power play 7:56 into the first period, assisted by forward Markus Granlund and defenceman Chad Billins.

The Heat took a 2-0 lead with 43 seconds to go in the first period when forward Josh Jooris slid the puck under the pad of goaltender Robert Mayer in close. Forwards Sven Baertschi and Corey Locke earned assists on the play.

Granlund scored shorthanded just 2:33 into the third period to give Abbotsford a 3-0 lead. Forward Carter Bancks drew the only assist.

Fournier notched his second goal of the season to get the 'Dogs on the board at 7:41 of the third period, assisted by defenceman Greg Pateryn and forward Jordan Owens.

The Bulldogs pulled Mayer late for an extra attacker, but with 45 seconds to go, defenceman Derek Smith potted an empty-net goal to seal the 4-1 victory for the Heat.

Robert Mayer made 28 saves on 31 shots in the Bulldogs net in the loss. Joni Ortio made 26 saves on 27 shots for the Heat in the win.

The Bulldogs went 0-for-7 on the power play, while the Heat went 1-for-4.
