Norfolk Admirals News Release

HERSHEY, Penn. - The Norfolk Admirals were out of luck on Super Bowl Sunday, as they suffered a 2-0 shutout defeat to the hosting Hershey Bears at the Giant Center.

After two scoreless periods, it took over 11 minutes in the third for a goal to be scored, and it was Hershey who benefitted. Taking advantage of a big hit on Josh Manson, Philippe Cornet controlled the puck behind the Admirals' net and swiped it out front to Casey Wellman. Wellman connected with Chandler Stephenson in close, who buried the puck behind Norfolk goaltender Jason LaBarbera. The tally at 11:14 gave Hershey a 1-0 lead.

Despite some chances, the Admirals wouldn't get any leverage. From the Admirals' zone, Wellman sent a stretch pass up ice to Kris Newbury, who snapped it into the empty net. Dane Byers earned the secondary assist at 18:58 of the final frame to cap the shutout contest for Hershey, 2-0.

Philipp Grubauer saved all 26 Admirals shots while LaBarbera turned aside 30 of 32 attempts. Neither team capitalized on the man-advantage, with both clubs going 0-for-4. The Admirals are now 17-23-3-2 and next enjoy a four-game homestand with back-to-backs against Worcester and Syracuse, beginning this Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Three Stars:

1) HER #17 Chandler Stephenson (GWG)

2) HER #31 Philipp Grubauer (26 saves)

3) NOR #1 Jason LaBarbera (30 saves)
