Monsters Rally to Beat Barons in OT

February 1, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Oklahoma City Barons News Release

Ben Street scored the game-winning goal on a penalty shot at the conclusion of overtime to lift the Lake Erie Monsters to a 2-1 win over the Oklahoma City Barons Saturday night at the Cox Convention Center.

With less than ten seconds remaining in the overtime period and the teams skating at 3-on-3, Street took control of the puck near the Lake Erie net and skated alone up ice before Barons defenseman Jordan Oesterle caught up to him just inside the Oklahoma City zone. Oesterle reached out with his stick and created enough contact that referee Kendrick Nicholson awarded Street a penalty shot as the final horn sounded.

On the ensuing penalty shot, Street beat Barons goalie Laurent Brossoit with a shot that sailed over the glove of the Oklahoma City net minder's glove and into the back of the net.

Lake Erie goalie Calvin Pickard made 43 shots and won his first game against Oklahoma City in seven tries over three seasons.

Mitch Moroz's first career AHL goal gave the Barons a 1-0 lead at 7:10 of the first period, when Moroz picked up a loose puck in the left circle and skated in on Monsters goalie Calvin Pickard before flipping a shot past the blocked of the Lake Erie net minder.

After a scoreless second period, Andrew Agozzino tied the game for the Monsters when he took a Joey Hishon pass in the low Oklahoma City slot and put the puck past Barons goal tender Laurent Brossoit.

The Barons outshot the Monsters 44-39, but despite outshooting Lake Erie for the entirety of the game, Oklahoma City was unable to score a second goal over the game's final 61:50.

The Barons' next game is Saturday, Feb. 7 when they travel to San Antonio for a 7 p.m. start at AT&T Center.
