Cleveland Monsters News Release
Ben Street scored on a penalty shot with no time left in overtime to secure a 2-1 victory for the Lake Erie Monsters (19-16-4-3) over the American Hockey League leading Oklahoma City Barons (29-10-3-3) Saturday night at Cox Convention Center. Andrew Agozzino also scored for the Monsters, tying the game in the third period to extend his individual goal scoring streak to five games. Calvin Pickard set a season-high for saves by a Monsters goalie, stopping 43 of 44 shots in the win. The Monsters have points in each of their last five games, and are 5-1-2-0 over their last eight contests. The Monsters conclude their three-game road trip Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. in Milwaukee.
Mitch Moroz scored the lone goal of the first period, giving the Barons a 1-0 lead at the 7:10 mark on a wrist shot from the left circle.
The game remained 1-0 in favor of the Barons heading into the third period, despite a back-and-forth second period that saw a combined 33 shots on goal; 17 for Oklahoma City, and 16 for the Monsters. Through two periods, Monsters goalie Calvin Pickard had 31 saves, and his Oklahoma City counterpart Laurent Brossoit had 21 saves.
With the Monsters dictating the tempo for long stretches in the third period, Andrew Agozzino tied the game at 1-1 for the Monsters with his 12th goal of the season at the 12:36 mark. Joey Hishon sent a pass from the left side to Agozzino for the backdoor tap-in. Tomas Vincour also assisted on the goal, which ultimately forced overtime.
Each team mustered four shots on goal in an action-packed overtime, and Street was awarded a penalty shot with no time remaining. Street sent a shot top-shelf to beat Brossoit and end the game in the Monsters favor, making the score 2-1 with his second goal of the season. The game marked the third straight for the Monsters that has gone into overtime.
Pickard stopped 43 of 44 shots and is now 9-6-4 on the season. Brossoit stopped 37 of 39 shots for the Barons, and his individual record moves to 13-7-2 with the overtime loss.
The Monsters visit Milwaukee Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. Eastern. Tuesday's game airs live on ESPN 850 WKNR.
