Burlington Bees News Release
Marco Hernandez spoiled Tyler DeLoach's return to the mound, lining a ball over the left field wall to give the Kane County Cougars a 1-0 victory over the Burlington Bees.
Tyler DeLoach (5-3) looked excellent in his first start back since being activated from the disabled list, but the only blemish on his resume turned out to be a costly one, as he surrendered a home run in the second inning.
DeLoach cruised through his first inning on the mound, but in the second, he surrendered a two-out solo home run to Hernandez. It was just Hernandez's fourth home run of the season.
The Cougars (49-68, 19-32) used four different pitchers to hurl a shutout against the Bees (47-70, 21-31). Tyler Skulina started the game off by twirling three innings with four strikeouts. Rob Zastryzny (1-0) followed Skulina with three scoreless frames of his own, earning his first Midwest League victory. Nathan Dorris hurled two innings, while Stephen Perakslis (S, 6) picked up his sixth save in as many chances with a scoreless ninth.
Burlington had a couple of scoring chances in the game, but the best chance came in the ninth. Julio Concepcion hit a groundball to shortstop, which was airmailed by Marco Hernandez, allowing Concepcion to go to second. Zach Wright's fly ball to right advanced Concepcion to third. Matt Scioscia, the hero of last night's game, hit a slow roller to third, and Jeimer Candelario threw the ball home to start a 5-2-6-1-5 fielder's choice. Scioscia went to second on the play, but Chevy Clarke struck out swinging to end the game.
The Bees and Cougars will meet on Friday at 6:30 p.m. for the final time in 2013. The rubber match of the series will feature Ryan Crowley for Burlington and Felix Pena for Kane County.
