Hernandez, Carroll Lead Missions To Victory

San Antonio Missions News Release


The Missions defeated the Corpus Christi Hooks 7-0 Wednesday night behind starting pitcher Pedro Hernandez and right fielder Sawyer Carroll.

Hernandez earned his first win of the season as he went six innings and limited Corpus to just four hits while striking out a season-high seven.

Carroll went 3-3 with four RBI, including a two-run homer in the fourth inning that broke a scoreless tie. He drove in his third run on an RBI single in the sixth and his fourth on a bases loaded walk in the seventh.

San Antonio improves to 24-15 in the second-half and 73-36 overall. The Missions have won 17 of the 21 meetings this season against the Hooks, including all 10 at Wolff Stadium.

The San Antonio pitching staff has now thrown 27 consecutive scoreless innings going back to the final game against Frisco on August 1.

The third and final game of the series is tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. Newly acquired right-hander Joe Wieland (4-0, 1.23 ERA) makes his Missions debut and righty Paul Clemens makes his first Double-A start for the Hooks.
